  VIETNAMESE POT-BELLIED PIG

 

SPECIES: Sus scrofa domesticus 

STATUS: Least Concern

HABITAT: Open woodlands and mountainous regions of Vietnam and Thailand.

DIET: Root, tubers, grubs, insects, nut, seeds and carrion. Wild pigs of any species are omnivorous when it comes to feeding.

GENERAL: Vietnamese Pot Belly Pigs are smaller in size than standard farm pigs, only getting between 70 to 100 pounds. (Any weight over 150 is overweight), and only about 24 inches tall at the shoulder.

All pigs have a keen sense of smell and use their noses to uproot any food hidden underground.

Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pigs have been use in law enforcement to sniff out illegal drugs just like drug sniffing dogs are used.
