WOOD DUCK
SPECIES: Aix sponsa
STATUS: Least Concern
HABITAT: Wooded swamps, marshes, ponds, lakes and streams.
DIET: Insects, snails, seeds, nuts, fruits and aquatic plants.
GENERAL: The Wood Duck nest in tree cavities close to water and after the eggs hatch the mother will call the ducklings from the ground, then the ducklings will jump from the nest cavity to the ground below.
Wood Ducks have sharp claws for perching in trees.
