RED-HEADED WOODPECKER
SPECIES: Melanerpes erythrocephalus
STATUS: Least concern
HABITAT: Orchards, forest edges, open clearings in the woods.
DIET: Insects, nuts, seeds, berries and occasionally eggs of other birds.
GENERAL: The Red-Headed Woodpecker was once common throughout eastern North America but has declined in numbers over the years and most likely due to cutting down of dead trees.
