EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL
SPECIES: Sciurus carolinensis
STATUS: Least Concern
HABITAT: Dense Woodlands
DIET: Tree bark, berries, nuts, seeds and occasionally eggs, insects and small rodents.
GENERAL: Eastern Gray Squirrels construct their dens between large tree branches and sometimes in hollow tree trunks. The nest are lined with feathers, grass and other materials which helps to reduce heat loss during the winter months.
Occasionally a Eastern Gray Squirrel can be black (melanistic) or white (albino).
