LIZARDS

   Lizards are in the same order, Squamata, as snakes. Lizards, unlike snakes, have eyelids and feet (except for the legless lizards) but lack external ears like snakes.

KOMODO DRAGON

   The largest lizard, Varanus komodoensis or Komodo Dragon, can attain a length of 10 feet and weigh as much as 200 + pounds. Sphaerodactylus ariasae or Jaragua Lizard is the smallest lizard in the world; in fact it is so small it can curl up on a dime.

   There are around 5,000 species of lizard worldwide and can be found on every continent except Antarctica; Lizards live in all types of habitats, including deserts, rainforest, mountains, marshes and swamps. The Marine Iguana of the Galapagos Islands is the only lizard that forages underwater for algae in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean.
