Common Snapping Turtle

                           

          COMMON SNAPPING TURTLE 

 

SPECIES: Chelydra serpentina

 

STATUS: Least Concern

 

HABITAT: Freshwater and in the southern parts of its range, brackish water.

 

DIET: Fish, frogs, rodents, snakes, birds, carrion, and invertebrates such as crayfish and snails.

 

GENERAL:  The Common Snapping Turtle can weigh between 25-100 pounds, but its cousin the Alligator Snapping Turtle can weigh up to 400 pounds.
