NORTHERN SPRING PEEPER

 

SPECIES: Pseudacris crucifer crucifer

STATUS: Least concern

HABITAT: Marshes, swamps and ponds.

DIET: Small insects and spiders.

GENERAL: Spring Peepers breeding season begins in October and runs through June depending on what area of the country.

They are brick-red in color and have a distinctive X on the their back, the Latin name crucifer means cross bearer.
